That's right, the Space-Biff! Book-Space! has reached its 20th episode!
[fireworks, fanfare, and general hoopla]
This time we talked about Autonomous, by Annalee Newitz. It's a rousing tale of robot law enforcement and pharma piracy.
Because of reading this book, I have started to notice news stories like this one when they come across my feed. I love thinking about the possibilities of "pharma pirates" in the real world, fighting back against the high prices and exploitative practices of big pharmaceutical companies. That article is about biohackers who are developing a way to make insulin, for a tiny fraction of the current cost.
It's a fascinating thing to consider, with a lot of possible implications. Autonomous explores some of the darkest of these implications, check out our discussion!
